For Sale - Santana Esperanza

The bike is a Santana Esperanza 23 1/2, 22 1/2. We were the 9th order for a Santana tandem and I have the paperwork from Bud"s Bike Shop, Claremont CA showing our purchase of the bike, ordered on 11-5-77, and showing the serial number "S#9" although there is no number stamped on the frame. Bud's Bike Shop is where Santana originated.

It is in excellent shape with very few nicks or scratches.

Components include:
Ishiwata CrMo tandem tubes
48 spoke Mavic Super Champion wheels
Phil sealed hubs
Mafac cantilevered front and rear brakes
Phil Wood disc brake
Sun Tour rear derailleur and Shimano front derailleur
TA cranks (53/47/34 teeth)
15 speed

Along with the bike we include a Yakama rooftop tandem carrier. This will fit on Yakama round cross tube rooftop carrier. Please note that we do not have the cross tubes. We will also include a front handlebar pack and carrier and two fairly small clip on panniers. If interested, we have a bunch of tools and supplies from that era.

Due to some back issues, we have not ridden it for the past 20 years, but got a lot of great use with it before that. Now we want to find a home for it with people that will enjoy it and use it.

We are not trying to recover any cost of this bike and accessories. We are interested in finding a good "home" for it where it can be enjoyed like we have enjoyed it. Any offer from someone who is seriously interested in the delights of tandeming will be gladly accepted.

I will be happy to answer any questions. The bike can be seen or picked up in Barnes, WI (about 20 miles North of Hayward WI).

For Sale - Custom Co-Motion with S&S Couplers

Up for sale is our custom Co-Motion Travel Tandem Bicycle, Size Small (54.5 cm), with S&S Couplers.

It's a custom frame made just for us so no, it's not a variation of any one existing model of Co-Motion. It includes 2 Co-Motion Travel Cases. Our steel Co-Motion trail tandem frame fits like a Co-Motion size small, uses low and smaller tubing. This tandem is custom in part because it has 700c wheels and fits up to 40c tires. We've run everything on here from 28c tires to 38c knobby cyclocross tires to 40c slicks for the roughest pavement. The pictured and included tires are 700x32c Clement Strada LGG tires. This tandem uses some NOS polished silver SRAM Rival shifters (the original Rival group was silver!). The drivetrain is currently SRAM 2x10. It uses a SRAM 11-36T rear cassette and SRAM XX rear derailleur. The FSA Gossamer tandem crank started as a triple and only uses the two outer rings which are now 50-38T. Crank lengths are 172.5 front and 170 rear. (Yes, with different shifters and derailleurs you could make this a triple again). This tandem is a standard length and uses the newer Gates Center-Track belt drive. Wheels were custom built around White Industries hubs with a Shimano freehub body. 36 holes and 145mm rear spacing. The hubs have Salsa polished alloy QR skewers (the back one has a small scratch on it). The Mavic rims are not tubeless. Brakes were chosen to compliment the polished SRAM shifters and are Avid BB7 Road SL mechanical calipers mated to Avid 180mm rotors. Currently the brakes are Moto-style with the front brake wired to the right hand lever. You can swap it the next time you tape the bars if you like? Seatposts and both stems are Thomson. Captains stem is 100mm and the stoker stem is 130mm and fixed. I believe that seat posts are shimmed and 27.2mm. Bottle cages are Elite Ciussi stainless steel. The handlebars are Bontrager alloy and the 42cm captains bar is flared out a bit wider to 46cm at the drops which gives a bit of randonee style and stability on descents. The captains bar also has a silver Spur-cycle bell which is the best sounding bell ever made - and it's included. The stokers handlebar is a 42cm Bontrager drop bar that has had the drops cut off and the bar flipped to make a compact bullhorn bar. Bar tape is freshly wrapped with Bontrager super-grippy/tacky stuff. This tandem is in exceptional condition and has been well cared for. It has fresh bar tape, new cables and housing (just for you), and fresh brake pads to get it ready for its new home. Excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition! Includes the wrench for S & S couplers, both travel cases (the green case is one of our originals, and the blue case was purchased later). Both cases are in very good condition, but don't match - which actually makes it easier to remember which case has the wheels in it! You'll also get a mess of pre-cut and labeled Velcro padding.
